Born Magical is a Brown Sugar Fairies Blog Series featuring creatives within the realm of Fae. I'm elated to share a few magical beings with the BSF community whose art, photography, poetry, and beautiful images have made us swoon! This week we welcome Whimsy Wynken! A magical fairy who brings joy to both children and adults alike. Her Ig page shares her bright spirit in each post!
Welcome Whimsey! Tell us who you are, and what you do creatively?
I am Whimsy Wynken of the Land of Willow Whim, home to the Willow Whim fairies. I am a dedicated children's entertainer with a mission to spread love, joy, and fun! I use a variety of bubble wands and bubble magic to bring smiles and wonderment! Sometimes, my woodland friends, 'Night Night' and 'Zippidy,' even come to visit.
Fairy Element?
Water, water, water! I have been a water baby ever since I was a tiny fae. Any body of water will do-- even a puddle! One of my favorite song lyrics goes, "What I love most about rivers is: you can't step in the same river twice." Water is always moving, reflecting back the light, and rinsing our souls.
What’s your favorite flower?
Bougainvillea! It loves the sun (as do I) and loves warm weather (as do I!). It's color is vivid and bright. It is a determined plant (also much like me, haha!).
As a fairy do you live by the river, mountains, jungle, fields, or another place?
Willow Whim is land of waterfalls, so I live in the branches of a willow tree, right next to the bottom of a beautiful, strong waterfall. I often wake up to rainbows shining in the water's mist as the falls thunder against the rocks. I live right next door to my Aunty Trynket, who made my travel bubble and taught me how to fly!
When you close your eyes and imagine your wingspan, what type of wings do you have? Dragonfly, Butterfly, Etherial…or other?
My wingspan in the Human realm is around 6 feet, but in the Land of the Willow Whims, they are about 9 feet and iridescent like the sparkling waterfalls and swirling like the waters around the rocks. If water is my first element, wind is certainly my second, because there is nothing like gliding along the wind's back, zipping through the forest branches, and following the crashing water down the waterfalls, wings outstretched.
Did you choose your passion, or did it choose you?
I think, though I may have glided here and there every once in a while, I have always been who I am. I have a great amount of joy and a great desire to share it.
Do you have a favorite fairytale, or book that has inspired you personally?
"A Story, A Story," by Gail E. Haley has been one of my favorite tales since I was a tiny fae. I love the magic of the tale and the triumph against great odds. It transported me in my dreams and I would walk up and down the magic spider web.
Do you have a daily ritual that helps keep you grounded?
Every morning, right as I open my eyes, I say, "Good Morning, God!" and I thank God for every blessing.
Can you tell us a little more about being a professional fairy, and what your business offers?
It is such important work! There's something really magical that happens when humans encounter a silent fairy (like myself). Suddenly, their guards fall down, and they allow themselves to simply enjoy the fairy fun and bubble joy! It's been my honor and joy to connect with people and put a smile on their face. I hope I can help every person I encounter to feel worthy and seen, no matter what they look like, what they can or can't do, or what is going on in their lives.
As a bubble fairy, I travel to festivals and large gatherings -- even weddings! -- with my trusty bubble cart that holds my giant bubble wands, magic stones, and sometimes an ocarina!
